About Wonopito Airport
Wonopito Airport is the main air gateway to Lembata Island in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. It serves Lewoleba, the regency capital, and provides an important domestic link for residents and visitors travelling to this part of the province.
The airport was built in 1977 by the former Flores Timur regency government, when Lembata was still part of that regency, and has operated commercially since the 1990s. Today it is managed by Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation and has a single runway measuring about 1,200 by 30 metres, suitable for smaller aircraft such as ATR turboprops.
Located in the Lamahora area of Lewoleba, roughly 7 km from the city centre, the airport is reached by motorcycle taxi or rented car. These local transport options connect the terminal with Lewoleba's hotels, the town centre and other parts of Lembata.
The compact terminal handles domestic arrivals and departures through a single building with check-in, security screening, a boarding lounge and baggage claim. Despite its small size, the airport plays a vital role in connecting Lembata with regional centres such as Kupang, especially when sea transport is affected by weather.
