About Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport

Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport is the main airport serving Whitehorse and the Yukon. It is owned and operated by the Government of Yukon and forms part of Canada's National Airports System. The airport's history dates back to the early 1940s, when it was expanded by the federal Department of Transport and used as part of the Northwest Staging Route during the Second World War; it was renamed in 2008 after Erik Nielsen, a former deputy prime minister and long-serving member of parliament for Yukon.

Located just outside downtown Whitehorse near the Alaska Highway, the airport provides connections to domestic destinations including Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton, as well as regional communities such as Dawson City and Old Crow. Air North, Yukon's airline, uses Whitehorse as its base, while other carriers also serve the terminal.

The compact single passenger terminal houses check-in, security screening, baggage claim and arrival services in one building. Recent improvements have added expanded security and hold-room space, an in-transit lounge and a second passenger boarding bridge, keeping the airport convenient and easy to navigate.

Ground transportation options include local buses, taxis, rental cars, and private or group transfers, making it easy to reach downtown Whitehorse in only a few minutes and continue to hotels, attractions and destinations across the Yukon.
