About Whale Cove Airport
Whale Cove Airport is the only airport serving Whale Cove, a small Inuit community on the west coast of Hudson Bay in Nunavut's Kivalliq region. It provides scheduled and charter air connections that link the hamlet with regional centres and other destinations across the territory.
The airport is located approximately 8 km from the community and is operated by the Government of Nunavut. It has a single gravel runway and, since 2025, a modern air terminal building that replaced a much smaller facility. The new terminal offers additional seating, better lighting and improved accessibility for passengers.
Scheduled service is provided by Calm Air, primarily connecting Whale Cove with Rankin Inlet, the Kivalliq region's main hub, with onward links to other communities. Charter operations also support resource-industry travel in the region.
Ground transport between the airport and Whale Cove is by local road, and the airport's location makes it an essential link for a community that has no year-round road access to the rest of Canada.
