About Watson Lake Airport

Watson Lake Airport is a public airport serving the town of Watson Lake in southeastern Yukon, near the Alaska Highway and the border with British Columbia. Operated by the Yukon government, it functions mainly as a facility for charter, private and general aviation traffic rather than scheduled passenger services.

The airport is located about 9 km west of the town centre and has a single asphalt runway measuring 1,676 metres. Its most distinctive feature is the air terminal building, constructed in 1942 as part of the Northwest Staging Route between Edmonton and Fairbanks during the Second World War. The log-clad building has been in continuous use since then and is now a designated Yukon Historic Site.

There are no public transit, taxi or car rental services at the terminal, so travellers are advised to arrange private transfers or pick-up before arrival. The nearby Alaska Highway provides road access to Watson Lake and onward routes through the Yukon and northern British Columbia.

For visitors, the airport offers a compact and easy-to-navigate arrival point with a waiting area and basic passenger amenities, while its historic terminal adds a distinct sense of the region's aviation heritage.
