About Waterford Airport
Waterford Airport is the only airport in Ireland's South East, serving Waterford city, County Waterford and the surrounding region. Opened in 1981 and granted a licence for international flights in 1982, the airport's current terminal building opened in 1992, with a runway of around 1,433 metres.
Although scheduled commercial passenger services have not operated since 2016, the airport remains an important aviation hub for general aviation, private and corporate aircraft, pilot training and the Irish Coast Guard search and rescue base. A runway extension project is under way to lengthen and widen the runway so that larger commercial aircraft can return, with commercial services targeted for 2027.
The airport is located about 9 km south-southeast of Waterford city centre, near Tramore and Dunmore East. Taxis meet flights and reach the city centre in about 15 minutes, while the Bus Éireann station and Waterford train station in the city provide onward connections across the South East and beyond.
