About Sligo Airport
Sligo Airport is a small regional aerodrome serving Sligo town and the northwest of Ireland. Opened in 1983 at Strandhill, the airport was built around a single 1,200-metre asphalt runway and for many years connected Sligo with Dublin through scheduled regional services.
Since scheduled passenger flights ended in 2011, the airport has focused on general aviation, private and corporate flights, cargo, flight training and the Irish Coast Guard search and rescue base for the northwest. The Sligo Aero Club is based at the airport and offers introductory flights and pilot training.
The airport is located at Strandhill, roughly 8 km west of Sligo town centre at the end of the R277 road, close to Strandhill beach and the Wild Atlantic Way. It is connected to Sligo town by local bus, taxi, private transfer and road links.
Facilities are compact and centred on a single terminal building, with an on-site café overlooking the runway, free car and coach parking, fuel services and wheelchair access. Its coastal location makes it a practical gateway for private aviation and air access to Sligo, south Donegal and the surrounding northwest region.
