About Vanimo Airport
Vanimo Airport serves Vanimo, the capital of Sandaun Province in north-western Papua New Guinea. Located close to the Indonesian border and the regional centre of Jayapura, it is an important connection point for domestic air travel and a potential future international gateway for the province.
The airport sits east of Vanimo town and has a single asphalt runway. As part of a government and Asian Development Bank-supported upgrade, the runway was extended to around 1,960 metres and a new terminal building opened in 2022, replacing the smaller older facility.
Air Niugini links Vanimo with Wewak and Madang, while smaller airlines and charter flights also use the airport. The terminal includes departure and arrival lounges, check-in counters, baggage handling, security screening, a kiosk, toilets, air-conditioning and a VIP lounge.
Vanimo town centre is only about one kilometre away, making onward travel by taxi or pre-arranged transfer quick and straightforward for arriving passengers.
