About Værøy Heliport
Værøy Heliport is the only scheduled air gateway to the island municipality of Værøy in Nordland, Norway. Located at Tobbisodden near the village of Sørland, it replaced the island's former fixed-wing airport after the Widerøe Flight 839 accident in 1990 led to that airport's permanent closure.
The heliport opened on 15 February 1997 and is owned and operated by the state-owned Avinor. It consists of a single asphalt helipad used by Lufttransport's AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters, which connect Værøy with Bodø under a public service obligation contract.
Positioned about five minutes by road from the centre of Sørland, the heliport offers free parking and taxi access, making onward travel on the island straightforward. From Bodø, travelers can continue by air, rail, road or coastal ferry to destinations across northern Norway.
The compact terminal provides a passenger waiting room, a small café and toilet facilities, keeping the travel experience simple for passengers flying between Værøy and the mainland.
