Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport is the main domestic airport serving Waingapu, the largest town on the island of Sumba, and the wider East Sumba Regency in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Formerly known as Mau Hau Airport, it is the primary air gateway for travellers arriving to explore eastern Sumba.
The airport handles scheduled domestic flights connecting Waingapu with destinations such as Denpasar and Kupang. A new terminal opened in 2016 to improve passenger services, and a further modernised terminal building entered service in 2023 with improved accessibility features.
Located about 5 km east of central Waingapu, the airport is a short drive from town. There is no scheduled airport bus, but taxis, hotel pickups and private drivers are the main ways to continue to Waingapu, nearby beaches and more remote areas of East Sumba.
Although facilities are compact, the airport offers a waiting area, a prayer room, basic food and drink options, restrooms and parking, making it a convenient entry point for domestic travellers arriving in eastern Sumba.
