About Trunojoyo Airport
Trunojoyo Airport is the only airport serving Madura Island and acts as the main air gateway to Sumenep and eastern East Java. Originally established in 1979, the airport has been developed over the years to support regional air connections, and a new passenger terminal was inaugurated in April 2022.
Located about 6 km from Sumenep city centre, the airport handles domestic flights and serves travellers moving between the mainland of Java and the towns and islands around Madura. Its single terminal building covers about 3,600 square metres, while the 1,600-metre runway can accommodate aircraft such as the ATR 72.
The airport is connected to Sumenep by local roads, with taxis, private transfers and other road transport providing the onward journey to the city centre and nearby coastal areas. Public transport options are limited, so most passengers rely on pre-arranged or taxi transport.
With a compact, modern terminal and basic passenger facilities, the airport functions as a practical gateway for visitors arriving in Sumenep and travelling onward across Madura Island.
