Tommy Kochon Airport (YCK) is the main air link for Colville Lake, a small remote community in the Sahtu Region of the Northwest Territories. Operated by the Government of the Northwest Territories, the airport supports scheduled domestic passenger flights that connect the community to regional centres such as Norman Wells and Fort Good Hope.
The airport was upgraded with a new terminal building and a longer gravel runway opened in October 2012, replacing the earlier runway that had been located within the community. The current runway 17/35 is 3,935 feet (1,199 metres) long and accommodates the small turboprops used for passenger, cargo and medical evacuation flights.
Colville Lake lies about 50 km north of the Arctic Circle and has no all-weather road access for most of the year. The airport, located roughly 2.4 km from the community, is therefore an essential gateway; in winter an ice road links Colville Lake with Fort Good Hope, but air travel remains the primary year-round connection.
The small terminal provides a waiting room, washrooms and landline telephone service.
