About Thompson Regional Airport
Thompson Regional Airport is the main air gateway for Thompson and Northern Manitoba. Originally developed by the International Nickel Company in 1961 to support mining operations, the airport was transferred to Transport Canada in 1963 and has grown into a key regional transport hub.
Located in the Mystery Lake local government district, roughly 6 km north of the Thompson city centre, the airport connects the region to Winnipeg through Calm Air and Perimeter Aviation and supports cargo, medevac and helicopter operations serving remote northern communities.
A new terminal, part of a multi-year redevelopment, has expanded passenger space to about 44,000 square feet and added more dining and retail options together with a full security screening area.
The airport is reached by taxi, private transfers and rental cars from Thompson, with short journey times to the city centre. Its facilities make it a practical hub for medical travel, business and community connections across Northern Manitoba.
