The airport lies approximately 21 km from the centre of Tapaktuan, the district capital. It has a single passenger terminal and an asphalt runway, and has historically handled light domestic services. Scheduled commercial flights were suspended from early 2019 due to low demand, while a weekly pioneer air service has connected Tapaktuan with Banda Aceh in more recent years.
Road access links the airport to Tapaktuan and surrounding coastal areas of South Aceh, with onward travel generally made by private vehicle or local road transport. As a small regional airport, terminal services are basic and passengers are advised to plan ahead.
