About Tambelan Airport
Tambelan Airport is a small domestic airport serving the Tambelan Islands in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands Province, Indonesia. Inaugurated on 4 August 2020, it was built to improve access to this remote island group.
Located about 2 km from Tambelan town, the airport has a compact passenger terminal of about 600 square metres and a 1,200 m × 30 m runway suitable for light aircraft such as ATR and CASA types. It supports pioneer subsidized flights, mainly connecting Tambelan with Tanjung Pinang, the provincial capital.
The Tanjung Pinang–Tambelan route takes roughly 75 minutes by air, compared with much longer sea journeys, making the airport an important link for residents and visitors. Local transport options around the island are limited, so arranging a transfer in advance is practical.
With basic passenger facilities and a small terminal, the airport functions as a modest but important gateway for travel to Tambelan's coastal villages and island destinations.
