Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport is the main airport serving Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau province on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The airfield dates back to 1930, when it was built by the Dutch colonial government as Simpang Tiga Airfield, and it now shares its runway and airport area with Roesmin Nurjadin Air Force Base.
The airport handles domestic and international flights, linking Pekanbaru with major Indonesian cities such as Jakarta, Medan and Batam, as well as regional international destinations including Kuala Lumpur. A modern passenger terminal opened in July 2012, replacing the older facility and increasing capacity for a growing number of travelers.
