Storuman Airport (SQO)

Storuman Airport is a small regional airfield serving the Storuman area of Västerbotten in Swedish Lapland. It is located in the village of Gunnarn, about 35 km east of Storuman town centre, and was originally built as a military airbase, which is why it has a relatively long 2,283-metre asphalt runway.

Scheduled passenger traffic began in 1993, connecting the inland region with the rest of Sweden, and continued until June 2010, when regular services ended. The airport has since been used mainly for general aviation, private flights and defence-related operations, and since 2023 it has been owned by the Swedish Armed Forces.

The airport has a single compact terminal building constructed in the 2000s, with a passenger waiting area and basic facilities. Because of its location, road transport is the main way to continue from the airfield to Storuman, Gunnarn and nearby towns such as Vilhelmina and Lycksele.

For travellers and operators using the airfield, it remains a useful access point to inland Västerbotten and the surrounding Lapland region, with private transfers, taxis and rental cars the practical options for onward travel.
