About Sharm El Sheikh International Airport
Sharm El Sheikh International Airport is the main international airport serving Sharm El Sheikh and the Red Sea resort areas of the southern Sinai Peninsula. It acts as a gateway for holidaymakers arriving for the beaches, diving and hotels of the region, and also handles domestic flights connecting Sinai with Cairo and other Egyptian cities.
The airport's history began in 1968 when the site operated as the Israeli airbase Ofira. After Sinai returned to Egyptian control in 1982, it was converted into a civilian airport. The modern Terminal 1 opened in May 2007 with two levels, around 40 check-in counters and capacity for about five million passengers a year, while the older Terminal 2 remains in use mainly for domestic services.
Located about 18 km northeast of central Sharm El Sheikh, near Ras Nasrani, the airport is within a short drive of major resort areas including Naama Bay, Sharks Bay and Nabq Bay. Taxis, private transfers, shared minibuses, car rental and pre-arranged hotel transfers provide onward connections to hotels and resorts along the coast.
With shops, cafés, restaurants, lounges, currency exchange and other passenger services, the airport supports large numbers of charter and scheduled flights from Europe, the Middle East and within Egypt.

Terminal 1, opened in 2007, handles most international and charter flights, while Terminal 2 is the older building and mainly serves domestic flights along with some international charters.
