About Säve Airport
Säve Airport is a general aviation airport on the island of Hisingen, serving Gothenburg and the surrounding west-coast region. The airfield opened in 1940 as a Swedish Air Force base for Göta Wing (F 9), and civilian general aviation later developed at the site.
Known as Göteborg City Airport between 2001 and 2015, the airport gained regional importance through low-cost scheduled services, with Ryanair starting its first route to London in 2001. The terminal was rebuilt in 2007 to nearly double the departure and arrival areas. Scheduled commercial flights were suspended in January 2015, and today the airport mainly supports private aircraft, helicopters and other general aviation traffic.
The airport is located about 9 km northwest of central Gothenburg, making it one of the closest air gateways to the city centre. Its compact, single-level terminal is easy to navigate and keeps arrival and departure flows simple.
Säve Airport is reachable by bus, taxi, private transfer and car, with on-site parking available for travellers continuing to Gothenburg, nearby coastal areas and the surrounding region.
