About Sachs Harbour (David Nasogaluak Jr. Saaryuaq) Airport

Sachs Harbour (David Nasogaluak Jr. Saaryuaq) Airport is the only airport serving Sachs Harbour, a small Inuvialuit hamlet on the southwest coast of Banks Island, Northwest Territories, Canada. Operated by the Government of the Northwest Territories, it is a vital air link for a remote Arctic community with no road connection to the mainland. Located about 1 km from the hamlet, the airport has a single gravel runway, approximately 1,220 metres (4,002 feet) long. The current terminal building opened in 2011, replacing an older terminal built in 1981, and handles scheduled regional passenger flights as well as charter and cargo operations. Scheduled passenger service connects Sachs Harbour with Inuvik through Aklak Air, operated in partnership with Kenn Borek Air. These flights carry passengers, freight and essential supplies between the community and the regional hub in the Mackenzie Delta. Because the hamlet is small and road infrastructure is limited, ground transportation at the airport is straightforward, with local vehicle transfers covering the short distance into the community. The airport functions primarily as a practical regional gateway rather than a large passenger hub.
