About Rocky Mountain House Airport
Rocky Mountain House Airport is a small general aviation airport serving the town of Rocky Mountain House and the surrounding west-central Alberta region. Jointly owned by the Town of Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County, it supports private, corporate, commercial and emergency-support aviation throughout the year.
The airport operates a licensed 5,000 ft (1,524 m) runway, with the existing runway surface extending about 6,000 ft (1,828 m) over a gravel base. In addition to general and corporate traffic, the site serves as a forestry aviation base for Alberta's wildfire operations.
The airport is located about 7 km (4.5 mi) north northeast of central Rocky Mountain House, with a terminal building that remains open 24 hours a day. Self-serve aviation fuel and a courtesy car are available around the clock, making it practical for pilots and passengers to continue into town.
Rocky Mountain House Airport also plays a community and aviation-sport role, hosting the Rocky Mountain House Airshow every two to three years and providing a designated aerobatic practice area that supports an annual Aerobatics Canada contest.
