About Roanne-Renaison Airport
Roanne-Renaison Airport serves Roanne and the wider Loire department as a regional aerodrome focused on general aviation, business flights and leisure flying. Located in Saint-Léger-sur-Roanne, about 7 km west-northwest of Roanne city centre, it provides a convenient air access point for the Roannais area in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
The site was inaugurated as a municipal aerodrome in 1935, following an agreement between the French state and the city of Roanne in 1933. It later hosted sports aviation and a military flying school, and in the 1960s received a hard-surfaced runway and parking area. A former Roanne–Paris air service ended in 2002, and the control tower was modernised in 2009.
Today the airport has a paved runway of around 1,430 m, a grass strip, a microlight strip, a control tower, a weather station, fuel stations, hangars and a maintenance workshop. It also hosts several air sports associations offering activities such as piloting, gliding, microlight flying, hot-air ballooning and parachuting.
The airport is reached mainly by road, with taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars providing onward travel to Roanne, Renaison, Le Coteau and other nearby towns. It functions as a small but practical gateway for private and business aviation in the region.
