About Rembele Airport
Rembele Airport (TXE) is a small domestic airport serving Takengon and the surrounding Gayo Highlands in Aceh, Sumatra. It is located in Bener Meriah Regency and acts as the main air gateway to this highland coffee-growing region.
Construction began in 2000, and the airport was later expanded and formally inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in March 2016. The upgrade extended the runway to 2,250 metres and enlarged the terminal to about 1,000 square metres, allowing the airport to handle larger aircraft and more regional passengers.
The airport lies roughly 20 kilometres from central Takengon and around 5 kilometres from Redelong, the capital of Bener Meriah Regency. Travelers can continue by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service or rental car, with road journeys depending on local traffic and weather.
Although compact, Rembele Airport provides essential passenger facilities for domestic departures and arrivals, and supports connections between the Gayo Highlands and destinations such as Medan.
