Pyay Airport (PRU)

Pyay Airport is a compact domestic airport serving the historic city of Pyay, formerly known as Prome, in Myanmar's Bago Region. It sits about 5 km east of the city centre on a single tarmac runway and provides access to one of the country's most culturally significant areas, including nearby pagoda and archaeological sites. The airport's role has traditionally focused on domestic connections, with services historically linking Pyay to destinations such as Yangon and Mandalay. Today it mainly handles general aviation, government and charter operations, while commercial traffic remains limited and road travel from Yangon is still a common way to reach the region. From the terminal, taxis and pre-arranged private transfers offer a short connection into central Pyay. The surrounding road network links the area to Naypyidaw, about 140 km to the northeast, and Yangon to the south. Although facilities are simple, the airport provides basic waiting areas, food and drink options and onward transport information, making it a practical entry point for travellers visiting central Myanmar.
