About Propriano Airport
Propriano Airport, officially the Propriano-Tavaria aerodrome, is a small civil airfield in the commune of Propriano in Corse-du-Sud, southern Corsica. It lies about 1.9 km southwest of the town centre and is open to public air traffic.
The airfield was created in 1964 and has a single paved east-west runway, 09/27, about 1,400 m long and 30 m wide. In the 1970s, Air Alpes operated commercial flights from here to mainland France before services were transferred to Figari Sud-Corse Airport, which offered a longer runway and better access to the far south of the island.
Today the aerodrome mainly serves leisure and tourism aviation, including light aircraft, plane and helicopter flight schools and parachuting. It is not controlled, with pilots using self-announcement on 118.500 MHz, and there is no regular year-round scheduled commercial service.
Travelers reaching southern Corsica on scheduled flights generally arrive via Ajaccio Napoléon Bonaparte Airport or Figari Sud-Corse Airport, both roughly an hour or so away by road. For private and charter arrivals at Propriano, the airport offers hangars, parking, a restaurant, refueling facilities and road access to Propriano, the Gulf of Valinco and the surrounding coastal area.
