Playa Sámara/Carrillo Airport (PLD)

Playa Sámara/Carrillo Airport is a small coastal airstrip in Guanacaste Province on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula. It is located between Playa Sámara and Playa Carrillo, close to the Pacific coast, and primarily serves the surrounding beach communities rather than functioning as a large passenger hub.

The airport has a single grass runway and a basic covered shelter used for waiting and luggage handling. Its infrastructure is limited compared with Costa Rica's larger international airports, and operations have historically focused on small domestic aircraft and charter flights. In recent years, the airstrip has not offered regular commercial passenger service.

Road access is available via Route 150 from Nicoya toward Sámara and Route 160 toward Puerto Carrillo. Taxis, private transfers and rental vehicles provide onward travel to nearby beaches and towns, while Liberia and San José remain the main international gateways for the wider region.

For travelers visiting Sámara, Carrillo or nearby Guanacaste destinations, the airport's location can still be useful for private and pre-arranged travel logistics even though facilities at the airstrip itself remain minimal.
