Pindiu Airport is a small rural airfield serving Pindiu and surrounding communities in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. Located on the Huon Peninsula, it provides an important air link for an area where road access is limited and overland travel can be slow and difficult.
After being closed for nearly 15 years, the airstrip was revived in 2019 with support from the Morobe provincial government, helping residents reach government services and move cash crops to market. The airfield sits at an elevation of about 913 metres and has a single grassed clay runway roughly 610 metres long.
The airport mainly handles small aircraft on domestic and charter services, connecting the Huon Peninsula with larger centres such as Lae, the provincial capital, which lies about 66 km away. It is also close to the Finschhafen district, another key town in the area.
Onward travel from the airfield is generally by local road, walking or boat, with air connections remaining the most practical option for longer journeys. Travellers should plan carefully, as terminal facilities and passenger amenities are very basic.
