About Pinang Kampai Airport
Pinang Kampai Airport is the main airport serving Dumai, a port and industrial city on the east coast of Riau, Indonesia. It acts as a gateway for travellers visiting the city and for business traffic linked to the region's oil and gas operations.
The airport was originally built by Pertamina, Indonesia's state oil company, to support its operations in the Dumai area, and has served the city's aviation needs since the 1980s. Since 2009, airport operations have been conducted by the Dumai City Council, and the facility has been reactivated in recent years to support regular domestic flights.
The airport has a single passenger terminal and a 1,800-metre asphalt runway, and is located about 6 to 7 kilometres southeast of Dumai city centre. Taxis and private vehicles provide the main road link between the terminal and the city.
Despite its compact size, the terminal offers basic passenger facilities including a café, restaurant, check-in counters and limited shopping. For most travellers, Pinang Kampai Airport remains the most convenient air access point for Dumai and the surrounding part of Riau province.
