About Papa Westray Airport

Papa Westray Airport is a small island airfield serving Papa Westray, one of the northern Orkney Islands in Scotland. Opened in August 1967, it is operated by Orkney Islands Council and is best known for forming one end of the world's shortest scheduled flight, the roughly two-minute Loganair hop between Papa Westray and neighbouring Westray.

The airport sits on Papa Westray about 41 km (25 mi) north of Kirkwall, Orkney's main town. It has a single graded hardcore runway aligned 04/22 and holds a CAA Ordinary Licence for public transport passenger flights, though it is not licensed for night operations.

Loganair's Orkney inter-island service links Papa Westray with Kirkwall, Westray and other islands in the group. Because the island has no direct road link to the Orkney mainland, most travellers continue by air or use the passenger ferry via Westray, with limited schedules and weather-dependent services.

Facilities are compact and simple, with a small terminal building and basic waiting area; a replacement terminal is planned to improve the passenger experience. Despite its size, the airfield plays an important role as a lifeline link for residents and a memorable stop for visitors exploring Orkney's outer islands.
