Ononge Airport is a small domestic airstrip serving Ononge, Ononge Mission and the Goilala District of Central Province, Papua New Guinea. It provides essential air access to remote mountain communities where road links to the capital are limited.
Located in the rugged Goilala highlands, roughly 96 km north of Port Moresby, the airfield sits at an elevation of about 5,800 ft and has a single short red clay runway, approximately 500 m long. The sloping, one-way approach makes it suited to light aircraft and helicopter operations.
The airstrip mainly handles charter and light aircraft flights, often from Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby, which is about a 30-minute flight away. It supports mission, community and cargo needs, including moving people and goods such as coffee in and out of the district.
Passenger facilities are basic, consisting of a small shelter and waiting area, and travelers usually arrange onward transport, accommodation and flights in advance. The airstrip plays a vital role in connecting this isolated part of Central Province.
