About Oksapmin Airport
Oksapmin Airport is a small highlands airstrip in Telefomin District, Sandaun Province, Papua New Guinea. It serves the remote Oksapmin community and surrounding villages, providing a vital air link in mountainous terrain where road access is limited.
The airstrip sits at about 1,567 m (5,140 ft) above sea level and has a single grass and clay runway, 10/28, roughly 675 m long. It is used mainly by Mission Aviation Fellowship and other charter operators for medical evacuations, supplies, community transport and missionary travel; there is no scheduled commercial airline service.
Located immediately at Oksapmin, the airport is within walking distance of the settlement and provides access to nearby highland areas. Telefomin lies about 70 km to the north-west, and Tabubil is roughly 100 km to the west, but road links in the region are limited, making small aircraft an important means of travel.
Passengers should expect basic facilities and prepare for weather-dependent operations in the highlands. Travel onward typically involves walking, pre-arranged 4WD vehicles or further charter flights, so planning with local operators is advisable.
