Nonouti Airport (NON)

Nonouti Airport is a small domestic airfield serving Nonouti Atoll in the southern Gilbert Islands of Kiribati. It links this remote outer island with the capital, South Tarawa, through scheduled flights operated by Air Kiribati and Coral Sun Airways.

Located between the villages of Rotuma and Autukia and close to the administrative centre of Matang, the airport has a single grass and coral runway and a simple open-air passenger shelter. Its modest infrastructure matches the limited traffic of a small island airstrip.

The atoll lies roughly 250 km southeast of Tarawa, and the flight is the main practical connection for residents, government travel, education and medical services. On the island, onward travel is usually arranged in advance through guesthouses, local motorcycles, trucks or village contacts.

Travelers should come prepared: facilities at the airport are minimal, with no shops or dining, so water, food and other essentials are best brought from Tarawa. Despite the simple setup, the airport is an essential gateway for reaching the villages and lagoon of Nonouti.
