About Nevatim Air Base
Nevatim Air Base is a major Israeli Air Force installation located in the northern Negev desert, southeast of Beersheba. Also known as Israeli Air Force Base 28, it is one of the country's largest air bases and hosts advanced fighter, transport and support squadrons.
The airfield was rebuilt and expanded from the early 1980s and now operates multiple runways. It is home to F-35I Adir fighter squadrons as well as transport and refueling aircraft, and it has hosted joint exercises and a US-operated radar installation.
Located about 15 km from Beersheba, the base is reached by road from the surrounding Negev region. As an active military facility, access is restricted to authorized personnel and there is no public passenger terminal or scheduled civilian air service.
Civilian travelers generally use Beersheba or Ben Gurion Airport for commercial flights. While a future civilian international airport near Nevatim has been discussed, the base itself remains a military installation.
