N'Djamena International Airport is the main international airport serving N'Djamena, the capital of Chad, and the country's only international gateway. It is located about 3 km north of the city centre and handles scheduled international and domestic flights alongside military operations.
The airport's origins date back to the colonial period, when it operated as the Fort-Lamy air base, and it is now also known as Hassan Djamous International Airport. A new international terminal was inaugurated in 2015, with passenger facilities divided between Terminal 1 for domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international services.
Public transport from the airport is limited, so most travellers continue to the city centre by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service or rental car. The short distance makes the airport relatively convenient for reaching hotels, business districts and government offices in N'Djamena.
