About Naujaat Airport
Naujaat Airport serves Naujaat, a remote Inuit community on the Arctic coast of Nunavut formerly known as Repulse Bay. Because there are no roads connecting the community to the rest of Canada, the airport is an essential year-round link for passengers, freight, and medical travel.
Located about 1 km from the hamlet centre, the airport has a single gravel runway, 16/34, measuring about 3,400 ft. Scheduled flights are operated by regional carriers such as Calm Air, usually connecting through Rankin Inlet to larger centres.
The community and airport were renamed Naujaat, meaning 'nesting place for seagulls', in 2015, replacing the earlier name Repulse Bay. A new passenger terminal opened in June 2025, providing a more spacious and modern waiting area for travelers.
Ground transportation is simple: visitors typically arrange pickups through local accommodation or use private vehicles, as there is no regular public transit. The short trip to the hamlet makes onward travel straightforward despite the remote setting.
