About Mulia Airport
Mulia Airport is a small domestic airport serving Mulia, the capital of Puncak Jaya Regency in Indonesia's Central Papua Province. It plays a key role in connecting the isolated Papuan highlands with Jayapura and Nabire, linking local communities to regional services, supplies and onward travel.
The airport has long been a lifeline for the Mulia area. It was first pioneered by missionaries who cleared a simple grass and gravel strip, and it was later developed after Puncak Jaya became an administrative district in 1996. A new Class III terminal building was inaugurated in May 2023, improving passenger facilities for this remote region.
Located in the village of Wuyukwi at around 1,800 metres above sea level, the airport operates a single runway of about 800 metres in length. It primarily handles small aircraft used on pioneer and subsidised routes, such as the Pilatus Porter PC-6, and serves domestic flights only.
The airport sits about 3.5 km from central Mulia and can be reached by road, motorcycle taxi or pre-arranged private transfer. Because it is located in mountainous terrain, travel conditions can vary with weather and road conditions, so travellers are advised to arrange onward transport in advance.
