About Miramichi Airport
Miramichi Airport is a public airport serving Miramichi, a city on the Miramichi River in northeastern New Brunswick. Located about 3 km south of the city centre, it primarily handles general aviation, private, charter, medevac and business aviation, along with government air tanker operations, rather than scheduled commercial passenger service.
The airport occupies the former site of CFB Chatham, a military air base that closed in 1996. Its main runway, 09/27, is 10,006 feet long and 150 feet wide, is paved with asphalt and is maintained year-round. In 2017, a new two-storey multifunctional air services terminal opened, replacing the former passenger terminal and housing flight operations, dispatching, meteorology observation, fuel services and a pilot reception and rest area.
The airport is the home base of the Department of Natural Resources and Energy air tanker operations and Forest Protection Limited's air tanker fleet. A General Electric J85 engine test facility is also located on site.
Road access connects the airport to central Miramichi and nearby communities within a few minutes, and onward travel is available by private car, taxi or pre-arranged transfer. Passenger facilities include free parking, fueling, ground handling and aircraft maintenance.
