About Mentawai Airport
Mentawai Airport (RKI) is the main air gateway to the Mentawai Islands in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Originally completed in 1980 as Rokot Airport, the facility was later redeveloped with a longer runway, a new passenger terminal and improved operational areas.
The airport is located in the Rokot area of South Sipora, about 22 km from Tuapejat, the regency capital and largest town in the Mentawai Islands. It handles domestic flights, providing an important link between the islands and Padang on the Sumatran mainland.
The modernized airport features a single passenger terminal and a runway of approximately 1,500 m, with apron and taxiway space able to accommodate ATR 72 aircraft. These improvements allow larger regional aircraft to serve the islands than were possible at the former airport.
Road access connects the airport with Tuapejat and other parts of Sipora, and onward travel to surf resorts, guesthouses and coastal destinations across the Mentawai Islands is arranged from the airport.
