About Mende-Brenoux Airfield
Mende-Brenoux Airfield is the main civil aerodrome serving Mende and the Lozère department in the Occitanie region of southern France. Open to public air traffic, it is used mainly for private aviation, business flights, tourism and safety or civil-protection operations.
Located on the heights about 3 km southeast of central Mende, the airfield sits at an elevation of roughly 1,020 m and has a single asphalt runway oriented 12/30 with a length of about 1,300 m. It has no scheduled commercial services and is not an airport of entry, so its compact facilities are geared to general aviation.
The site has a long connection with the area: in 1966 it served as the filming location for the final scene of the film La Grande Vadrouille. Since July 2016 it has been managed by the Communauté de Communes Cœur de Lozère.
As a gateway to Lozère, the airfield offers road access to Mende and onward travel to the Cévennes National Park, the Gorges du Tarn, the Aubrac plateau and the Margeride. Visitors typically continue by taxi, private car or pre-arranged transfer.
