Mechanics Bay Heliport is Auckland's central-city helicopter gateway, located on the Waitematā Harbour waterfront at the eastern end of the Port of Auckland. The site has a long aviation history: Mechanics Bay was Auckland's first international airport and a base for TEAL and Pan Am flying boats from the 1930s until the 1950s, followed by Sea Bee Air amphibian services until 1989. Today the waterfront operates as a heliport beside the Auckland Marine Rescue Centre.
