About Masalembo Airport
Masalembo Airport is a small island airstrip on Masalembu Island, part of Sumenep Regency in East Java. It is intended to improve access to the remote Masalembu Islands in the Java Sea, which have historically relied on long sea crossings from Kalianget Port near Sumenep.
Located in Sukajeruk village in Masalembu District, the site is owned by PT Elnusa and is being prepared by the Sumenep regional government for pioneer flights. The existing runway is about 800 metres long, with plans to extend it to at least 900 metres, and the airport's registration is being reactivated with a target of operations in 2027.
The airport sits roughly 200 kilometres from Sumenep, with the sea crossing between Kalianget and Masalembu normally taking 12 to 14 hours. Once operational, the airstrip is expected to offer a faster air alternative to the mainland.
As a small island gateway, Masalembo Airport will mainly support domestic pioneer services and improved mobility for residents and visitors, with onward travel within the islands continuing by village roads, boats and local transport.
