About Makkovik Airport

Makkovik Airport is a small regional airport serving Makkovik, an Inuit community on the northern coast of Labrador in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Operated by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, it is the community's year-round air link, carrying passengers, mail, food and essential goods to this road-isolated part of the province.

Located about one kilometre west of the community centre, the airport has a single gravel runway and one compact single-story terminal building with a heated waiting area. Regional flights, typically operated by Air Borealis and PAL Airlines using Twin Otter aircraft, connect Makkovik with Happy Valley-Goose Bay and other coastal Labrador communities.

Because Makkovik has no road connection to the rest of the province, the airport plays an essential role in local life. Travelers continue from the airport by pre-arranged local transport, walking in good weather, or seasonally by boat, snowmobile or ATV, while onward flights link to the wider air network.

Facilities at the airport are basic: passengers can expect seating, restrooms and a protected waiting area, but no restaurants, shops or currency services, so it is useful to bring supplies before departure.
