About Maimun Saleh Airport
Maimun Saleh Airport serves Sabang and Weh Island, a popular island destination off the northwest tip of Sumatra in Aceh province. It is considered Indonesia's westernmost and northernmost airport and functions mainly as a small domestic gateway for travelers arriving by air from Banda Aceh.
The airfield has a long history as a military and civilian strip dating from the colonial era and was later named after Indonesian Air Force pilot Maimun Saleh. Today it has a single compact passenger terminal and an asphalt runway of about 1,844 metres, shared between civil flights and military aviation operations.
Located roughly 3 km from Sabang town centre, the airport provides a short and straightforward connection for visitors continuing to the island's beaches, dive sites and resorts. Scheduled pioneer flights link it with Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport in Banda Aceh in around 15 minutes.
Onward travel from the airport is served by taxis, local transport, motorcycle taxis and pre-booked transfers to Sabang town and coastal areas such as Iboih and Gapang. Ferry services from nearby Balohan Port also connect Weh Island with Banda Aceh for travelers continuing to the mainland.
