About Leuchars Station Airfield
Leuchars Station Airfield is a military airfield on the north shore of the Eden Estuary in Fife, about 5 km northwest of St Andrews. Formerly RAF Leuchars, the site has an aviation history dating back to 1911 and transferred from the Royal Air Force to the British Army in 2015.
It remains an active military station, home to the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and RAF units including 612 (County of Aberdeen) Squadron, and it hosts Grob Tutor light training aircraft. It is not a scheduled passenger airport and does not provide public terminal, check-in or arrivals facilities.
The airfield lies close to St Andrews and about 13 km from Dundee. Leuchars railway station offers rail connections towards Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen, while road links lead to the East Neuk of Fife, Dundee and the wider region.
Civilian aircraft operations ended in 2026 after the station retired its radar systems, so travellers visiting St Andrews and Fife generally use Dundee Airport or Edinburgh Airport and continue their journey by road or rail.
