About Leaf Rapids Airport
Leaf Rapids Airport serves the town of Leaf Rapids in northwestern Manitoba, a planned mining community developed in the 1970s around the Ruttan Mine. It is a small public airfield that supports regional travel, essential services and access to this remote part of northern Manitoba.
Located about 5.5 km (3 nautical miles) north of the town centre, the airport has a single asphalt runway, 17/35, measuring 3,000 by 75 feet at an elevation of 959 feet. It is served by regional flights, including Air Canada Express services, linking the community to the larger northern hub of Thompson about 150 km to the southeast.
The terminal building is basic and functional, with limited passenger facilities suited to small regional aircraft operations. Travelers should plan for a simple arrival and departure experience, with onward transport within Leaf Rapids typically arranged by local vehicle.
Because of its remote northern location, the airport is an important transport link for residents, mining and forestry workers, government travel and medical movement, helping connect Leaf Rapids to the wider Manitoba region.
