About Kualanamu International Airport
Kualanamu International Airport is the main international airport serving Medan and the wider North Sumatra region. Opened in 2013, it replaced the former Polonia International Airport and consolidated the area's commercial air traffic into a modern airport complex.
Located in Deli Serdang Regency, roughly 39 km east of central Medan, the airport provides domestic and international connections and serves leisure, business, and Hajj and Umrah travellers. Its single terminal building is organised into domestic and international sections, with separate check-in islands and gate areas.
The airport is connected to Medan by the Kualanamu Airport Rail Link, buses, taxis, ride-hailing services, private transfers, and the Medan–Kualanamu toll road, making onward travel to the city centre and surrounding areas relatively straightforward.
