The airport was renamed Kristianstad Österlen Airport in 2013 to reflect its role across the region.
Located in Everöd outside Kristianstad, the airport is roughly 16 km from the city centre and functions as a compact regional hub for scheduled, charter, business, and general aviation traffic.
