About Kokonao Airport
Kokonao Airport is a small domestic airport serving Kokonao, a historic town in the Mimika Barat district of Mimika Regency, Central Papua. The airport acts as a local air gateway for one of the region's oldest settlement and education centers, keeping the town connected with Timika and other parts of Papua.
The facility is operated as a Class III airport under Indonesia's Directorate General of Civil Aviation. It has a single runway of around 600 meters and a compact passenger terminal, making it suitable mainly for light aircraft and pioneer flights rather than large commercial operations.
The airport lies on the southern coast of western Papua, roughly 54 km from Timika, the capital of Mimika Regency. Because regular overland road access is limited, travelers commonly continue to and from Timika by speedboat along the rivers and Arafura coast, or on short pioneer flights.
Passenger facilities are modest, and services focus on regional and community routes. Despite its small size, the airport plays an important role in connecting Kokonao and nearby river and coastal settlements with the wider region.
