About Kamarata Airport
Kamarata Airport (KTV) is a small airstrip serving the indigenous village of Kamarata in Bolívar state, southeastern Venezuela, within Canaima National Park. It provides an important domestic air link for a remote area with very limited overland access and functions as a gateway to the southeastern side of Auyán-tepui, the table-top mountain that hosts Angel Falls.
The airstrip sits at the base of an alluvial fan below Auyán-tepui at an elevation of about 470 metres, with a single unpaved runway. Because the airport handles light aircraft and charter flights rather than large scheduled commercial traffic, operations are simple and closely tied to weather and daylight conditions.
Most travellers arrive from regional centres such as Ciudad Bolívar and Ciudad Guayana by small aircraft, since overland connections to the area are extremely limited. From the airstrip, onward travel into the village, nearby lodges, river landings and trekking routes is usually arranged through local guides and transfer operators.
Despite its basic facilities, the airport plays an essential role in connecting Kamarata and surrounding communities, supporting tourism to the Angel Falls region and providing a lifeline for local residents and supplies.
