Kalimarau Airport (BEJ)

Kalimarau Airport is the main domestic gateway serving Tanjung Redeb, the capital of Berau Regency in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Located about 8 km west of the city centre in the Teluk Bayur area, it connects the region with major Indonesian cities and provides access to the Derawan Islands, Maratua Island and other coastal destinations in the Berau area. The airport was established in 1976 as a pioneer airfield with a short 650-metre runway. It has since been expanded in stages, and its current two-level passenger terminal opened in the early 2010s as part of a major modernisation programme. The airport now operates a 2,250-metre runway and can handle narrow-body aircraft used on domestic routes. Kalimarau Airport serves a mix of business, resident and leisure travellers, supporting tourism as well as mobility for the mining and regional economy. Domestic carriers link Berau with cities including Jakarta, Balikpapan, Surabaya and Yogyakarta. The airport is reachable from Tanjung Redeb by taxi, online ride-hailing, minibus and private vehicle, with the drive normally taking around 15 to 20 minutes. Its terminal provides cafés, shops, ATMs, a prayer room, a nursery room and family areas, making it a practical starting point for onward journeys across the region.
