About Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport

Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport is the only airport on Saba, a small island in the Caribbean Netherlands. It is known for its single short runway of about 400 metres, one of the shortest commercial runways in the world, and is restricted to small propeller aircraft.

The airport opened in 1963 and is named after Juancho E. Yrausquin, a politician who advocated for the island's air connection with the rest of the region. A compact terminal on the southwest side of the runway contains check-in, immigration, security, and airline offices.

Winair operates scheduled flights between Saba and Sint Maarten using de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft, with a typical flight time of around 12 to 15 minutes. The airport sits on the northeast coast at Flat Point, about 10 kilometres by road from the capital, The Bottom.

There is no public transport network on Saba, so most arriving passengers continue by taxi or rental car along the island's main road to The Bottom, Windwardside, and other settlements. The airport remains an essential link for residents, divers, hikers, and visitors exploring the island.
